Who Was Arrested in Connection with the Incident?

The Metropolitan Police arrested a 31-year-old man on 8 September 2025, two days after the incident. He was taken into custody on suspicion of possession of firearms with intent, blackmail, and driving without a licence. The suspect has since been bailed while enquiries continue.

How Has Tottenham Hotspur Responded?

Tottenham Hotspur issued a statement following their 4-0 UEFA Champions League win over FC Copenhagen on Tuesday, in which Udogie played. A club spokesman said,

“We have been providing support for Destiny and his family since the incident and will continue to do so. Given this is a legal matter, we cannot comment any further”.

What Do We Know About Destiny Udogie?

Destiny Udogie, a 22-year-old Italian international, joined Tottenham Hotspur from the Italian Serie A club Udinese in 2022 for a transfer fee of £15 million. Initially loaned back to Udinese for the 2022-23 season, he made his competitive debut for Spurs in summer 2023. This season, he has made 10 appearances, including the recent Champions League match against Copenhagen.

What Are the Details of the Police Investigation?

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed ongoing enquiries into the incident. On the night of 6 September, police were called following reports of the firearm threat. The investigation also revealed that another man was subjected to blackmail and threats by the same individual. The suspect remains on bail as investigations proceed.

What Is the Broader Context of the Incident?

BBC Sport revealed that the alleged firearm threat involved a football agent, though Tottenham has not publicly confirmed this aspect. No physical harm occurred, which is a relief for Udogie and others involved. The incident has sent shockwaves through the football community given the seriousness of firearm threats in London.

Tottenham Hotspur and law enforcement are treating the alleged gun threat against defender Destiny Udogie with utmost seriousness. The club continues to support the player and family while the police investigate a 31-year-old suspect currently on bail. Udogie remains an active player for Spurs, appearing in major competitions including the UEFA Champions League.
