Most 16-year-olds are thinking about exams. Max Dowman is thinking about what to do with his Premier LeagueArsenal Premier League title celebrations in north London 2026 winner’s medal. The Arsenal midfielder has become the youngest player in history to win the Premier League title, and it is just the latest record in a season that has left English football rubbing its eyes in disbelief.

Dowman’s rise has been one of the biggest breakthrough stories of the season in English football. He made his league debut in August, coming off the bench against Leeds, becoming the club’s second-youngest Premier League player of all time behind only Arsenal teammate Ethan Nwaneri, who is currently on loan at Marseille. From that moment, the records have followed one after another.

In November 2025, he became the Champions League’s youngest ever player at 15 years and 308 days. Then, in March, against Everton at the Emirates, Dowman collected the ball midway inside his own half, dribbled past two defenders, and raced clear from the halfway line to tap into an empty net with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford stranded upfield having gone forward for a corner. At 16 years and 73 days, the Hale End academy graduate shattered the previous record for the Premier League’s youngest scorer, held by former Everton striker James Vaughan, surpassing the mark by 197 days.

Arteta had sent him on with the simplest of instructions. “Go and do your thing and win us the game,” the Arsenal manager told him. He did exactly that.

Now comes the biggest record of all. Guinness World Records has confirmed that Dowman has achieved a new record as the youngest football player to win the Premier League. By the final day of the season, Dowman will be aged 16 years and 144 days, comfortably surpassing the previous record held by Phil Foden, who won the Premier League with Manchester City in 2017-18 at 17 years and 350 days old. Dowman is guaranteed to receive a winner’s medal, as Premier League guidelines mandate that every player to make five or more appearances must receive one of the 40 medals on offer.

The teenager, who is still in school, was just 14 when Arteta asked him to train with the senior team. He starred on the club’s preseason tour of Asia in matches against AC Milan and Newcastle. To comply with Premier League regulations for players under 18, Dowman has had to change into his Arsenal kit in a separate changing room to that used by his senior teammates.

Arteta has carefully integrated Dowman into the first team this season, with the midfielder making all five of his Premier League appearances from the bench. Despite his age, the teenager has shown composure, technical quality, and maturity beyond his years.

Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri, Eberechi Eze, and Bukayo Saka have also won Premier League medals for the first time. Talk about a remarkable group of young talent collecting silverware together. But it is Dowman’s story that stands apart. At 16, with records still to break and years ahead of him, the boy from Hale End has already made Premier League history.
