Late-night commuters travelling between Finsbury Park and Stevenage this week face disruption as engineering works force buses to replace trains on the Great Northern line via Hertford North. The works are in place from Monday, 11 May, through to Thursday, 14 May, with buses replacing trains from approximately 23:40 each night.

Engineering work is taking place overnight between Finsbury Park and Stevenage, closing some lines on the Great Northern route via Hertford North. The disruption begins at approximately 23:40 each evening and runs through the early hours, affecting anyone travelling late at night along one of North London’s key commuter corridors.

Crucially, rail replacement buses will not call at Harringay or Hornsey. Passengers travelling to or from either of those stations are advised to use alternative Great Northern services instead. All other stations along the route between Finsbury Park and Stevenage via Hertford North will be served by replacement buses as normal.

For those holding paper rail tickets, there is good news. Tickets will be accepted on London Buses at no extra cost to complete journeys. Passengers are advised to allow extra time when travelling by rail replacement bus, as journey times are typically longer than by train and buses may be busier than usual.

The disruption affects one of North London‘s most heavily used commuter routes—connecting Finsbury Park with stations through Hertford North and on to Stevenage. Thousands of North London residents use this corridor daily to commute into central London and beyond, and late-night travellers returning home after an evening out or finishing a late shift are most likely to be affected.

Tonight, Tuesday 12 May, is the second of four affected nights. Engineering works continue on Wednesday 13 May and Thursday 14 May, with normal services expected to resume from the early hours of Friday 15 May. Passengers are strongly urged to check their journey before travelling and to leave extra time if planning to travel after 23:40 on any of the remaining affected nights.

Pick-up and set-down locations for rail replacement buses can be found by checking station signage at Finsbury Park and all stops along the route. Passengers with accessibility requirements or travelling with bicycles are advised to check the Great Northern website for specific guidance before travelling.
